How do ear candles work?

Ear candles have a purely physical function. A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum.

How often should I use ear candles?

We generally recommend one treatment daily for up to seven days in acute cases, one to two times a week for chronic indications, and one treatment regularly every three to four weeks for preventative or revitalizing indications.

There is no problem to use more than one ear candle per ear provided the patient has no discomfort. *This would incur additional charges.

When should a person NOT use ear candles?

In the presence of a perforated eardrum or tympanotomy tube implants we strictly do not recommend the use of ear candles. The same applies to all kinds of inflammations of the ear or skin diseases in and around the ear.

If you suffer from a chronic or acute disease, or if you feel ear candling may not suit you, you should by all means consult a therapist of your confidence for further advice.

Can the ear candles be used on children?

BioSun ear candles can be used even on small children. Ear candles can be used on children who are old enough to clearly communicate what they are feeling, usually from 2.5 to 3 years. Also the child should not be frightened or need to be held down.

Does the ear candle remove wax from the ear?

The ear candles are not intended to remove wax from the ear and are not used for the purpose of cleaning the ear, however they may soften the wax to assist in cleaning.

After the ear candle has burned a yellow powder can be seen. What is this?

The yellow powder is from the candle itself. It is the condensate of the beeswax that falls down inside the candle during the burning process. Because beeswax is a liquid (in solid form) it boils adjacent to the flame. This forms a vapor which then cools and solidifies (as a yellow powder) away from the flame.
